The benefits of Invisalign

At Boisson Dental Group in Grande Prairie, Alberta we proudly provide Invisalign treatments. Invisalign is a safe and effective orthodontic treatment which most patients find to be more comfortable and convenient than traditional braces.

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen use a series of clear aligners which are custom designed for the patient. The clear aligners gradually shift the teeth into their proper alignment over the course of about 1 year to 18 months. The aligners will need to be replaced periodically as the teeth shift. Because the clear aligners are removable, they will not interfere with eating or cleaning the teeth. For this reason, it’s a lot easier to maintain oral hygiene with Invisalign than with metal bracket braces, which can make brushing and flossing more complicated. However, it’s important that the patient wears their aligners for about 23 hours a day in order for treatment to be effective.

The cost of the Invisalign system is actually similar to the cost of metal bracket braces. The choice between Invisalign or braces should depend on the patient’s lifestyle and comfort level.

There are many advantages of choosing the Invisalign System to straighten teeth. Metal bracket braces tend to need more maintenance, and injuries due to broken brackets or wires can sometimes occur. Invisalign can also provide more precise results than metal braces.

Any orthodontic treatment is beneficial. Misaligned teeth are not only unsightly, but  can also lead to and contribute to oral health problems such as TMJ and sleep apnea further down the road. Properly aligned teeth are also easier to keep clean and less susceptible to decay.

While it is recommended that a patient have their first orthodontic consultation by age 7, the Invisalign system will work for patients of all ages. Adults often find Invisalign to be more discreet than older style metal bracket braces, as the clear aligners are removable and not immediately visible while they are being worn.
